The pianist and composer Paul Safar and I have been working together for years despite the distance between us, even carrying out remote projects — he in Oregon and I in Catalonia. The most significant project is Morning Improvisations, which we recorded during the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then, we meet every year to perform a few concerts together, either in Oregon or in Spain. The result is a performance where we offer an eclectic repertoire ranging from American jazz standards to original pieces by Paul and myself, including some classical works by Catalan composers. The two instruments engage in a fluid and elegant dialogue, delivering exquisite sonorities to the audience.
